Hamarikyu Gardens
Coming out of the airplane after an eleven hour
flight, this was the first thing we saw in Tokyo, we
were very impressed by its beauty and tranquility.
The Hamarikyu is a large landscape garden,
situated at the Tokyo Bay. The ponds get their
water from the sea and the water level changes
with the tides. One of the main attractions is the
teahouse, where visitors can drink some tea and
enjoy the beautiful landscape. In the background
one sees the skyscrapers of modern Tokyo.
The garden was built during the Edo Period (1603-
1867) and had several purposes varying from duck
hunting grounds to imperial palace before opening
for the public. One have to pay a small fee for this
garden an English audio guide is free available.
